Digital Report 2021: Things have gone to print at NORMA Group

Date
15/09/2022

You read that right, NORMA Group has gone print - at least when it comes to the annual report. Because the 2021 Annual Report is now only available digitally and as a PDF. Under the concept motto "Sustainable. Relevant.", NORMA Group takes a virtual look back at a turbulent 12 months and a year of mixed momentum.

Annual Report 2021: A reflection of our digitalisation

The Annual Report 2021 focuses on the further developed strategic priorities that will ensure accelerated growth for NORMA Group in the coming years in an increasingly digitalised world. "It was therefore only logical that our lead agency RYZE Digital realised our 2021 Annual Report exclusively digitally and as interactive scrollytelling," says Ivana Blazanovic, Manager Investor Relations Norma Group. "In 2021, we have achieved numerous ambitious goals in the area of digitalisation and intelligent innovation and shown that we as a company never stand still - and this is exactly what the dynamic design of our digital annual report illustrates."

From videos and interactive charts to further links, readers can expect a wide range of digital bonus content that provides an entertaining insight into the 2021 financial year and the company's goals for the coming years. The digital report is based on our 'Digital Report' tool of the same name.

'Digital Report': the multimedia annual report at the touch of a button

The principle behind the 'Digital Report' is as simple as it is smart: on the customer side, a team consolidates the content for the report in a disclosure management system, a system designed specifically for report creation. This system can both collect figures from various data sources and create reports editorially, which is usually done on the basis of MS Excel and MS Word. The status of the report is then exported as a Word file. For the PDF of the report, the Word file was linked with InDesign via the Digital Report and compiled in an editing system with other parts of the report to form the overall PDF of the annual report.

At the same time, the same Word file is transformed into the full HTML report using the 'Digital Report'. The highlight here is that both the PDF report and the full HTML report are generated from one Word data source. Ivana Blazanovic: "The advantage of this solution lies in its flexibility. Which content do we want to offer online - and which not? As we know our target groups precisely, we knew from the outset what content would be considered for the 2021 annual report. Using the 'Digital Report', we were able to control this in a targeted manner."

Why do we still read annual reports as PDFs? Why is the medium lagging behind in terms of digitalisation? And how can we do better? We address these and other questions in this white paper.

Scrollytelling: multimedia experience of the 2021 Annual Report

Scrollytelling is a key element of NORMA Group's 2021 Annual Report. Photos and videos, animated graphics and reading samples merge with each touch of the touchpad (or each turn of the scroll wheel). After just a few seconds, you experience the report at a speed of its own. You see, hear and read the content, all separately and yet all at once.

The report takes the reader on a multimedia review of NORMA Group's past financial year. With each touch of the touchpad, they move forwards or backwards through the multimedia story of the annual report. There is a lot to discover along the way, including the CEO video as well as interactive charts and tables of key figures as Excel downloads.

Annual Report 2021: Milestone for future online reports

The new digital format of the annual report will give investor relations target groups even faster access to relevant information about NORMA Group. For Ivana Blazanovic, the 2021 digital report is therefore much more than just a launch: "It is nothing less than a strategic milestone within the expansion stages of our future online annual reports."

Trends in corporate reporting

Hard facts and figures dominate, there is no more room for image communication: this seems to have been the trend in annual reports in recent years. And the sustainability report is facing the same development thanks to CSRD. Is this the end for image issues and good stories? We say no.
