What is performance marketing?

What is the difference between SEA and SEO?

SEA (Search Engine Advertising) is paid search engine advertising in which adverts are placed in the search results. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the optimisation of websites for organic, i.e. unpaid, search results.

What does GAIO mean?

GAIO stands for Generative AI Optimisation – the optimisation of content and websites so that they appear in responses from generative AI systems (e.g. ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews).

What is the difference between GEO and GAIO in performance marketing?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) refers to the targeted optimisation of content so that it appears in the responses of generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Perplexity – for example through clear structure, precise language and relevant keywords. 

GAIO (Generative AI Optimisation) goes beyond this: Here, content and brands are optimised holistically for AI-supported search and response environments in order to not only be visible, but also to be mentioned as a direct, trustworthy source in AI responses.
