That was the Corporate Reporting Conference 2022

Date
01/08/2022

The second virtual Corporate Reporting Conference on 28 June 2022 is behind us and we look back.

The Corporate Reporting Conference is now in its eighth year. However, it is the first under the new umbrella of RYZE Digital, as MPM Corporate Communication Solutions merged with the two agencies Electronic Minds and VRM Digital Communications to form an agency group in September 2021. Since then, our events have also been running under the new name RYZE Digital.

Our campaign motto this year is "What's next in corporate reporting?" (link to event registration) and we looked in particular at digital corporate reports in the area of conflict between digitalisation, efficiency pressure and EU directives as well as disclosure management systems and best cases in corporate reporting. We also presented the key findings of our study "Trendmonitor Annual Reports".

Our speakers were:

  • Philipp Mann, Managing Partner at MPM Corporate Communication Solutions and CEO of RYZE Digital
  • Patrick Weiser, Managing Director of Electronic Minds
  • Gregor Sobotta, Director Publishing at MPM Corporate Communication Solutions
  • Christian Ferrari, Regional Sales Director at Workiva
  • Michael Kuhlmann, Director Moving Images at MPM Corporate Communication Solutions
  • Sandra Burkhardt, Account Manager at MPM Corporate Communication Solutions
  • Jörg Riedle, Head of Internal Communication & Publications at TÜV SÜD

What remains? We summarise some of the lessons learned from CRC 2022:

Study | Trendmonitor DAX 40 annual reports:

Every year since 2014, we have analysed the annual reports of DAX companies according to various criteria and evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively which trends can be identified in the reporting. This year, we analysed 40 DAX companies instead of 30 due to the expansion of the share index.
The results: The DAX 40 reports from 2022 show more image communication and the alignment of social megatrends and corporate issues has rarely been so great - climate crisis and demographic change move everyone. The proportion of online reports in the DAX 40 has once again risen slightly.

Digital annual and sustainability reports:

RYZE Digital has developed the ReportingHub, a digital platform with which companies can now publish a database-supported, customisable version of key reporting figures for the first time. Patrick Weiser reported on next-level reporting with the ReportingHub, a digital tool that contains all key figures and can filter and export them according to standards. Easy to navigate, completely customisable and applicable to annual and sustainability reports.

Disclosure Management| Financial and ESG Reporting with Workiva

We are pleased to announce that RYZE Digital has been listed as a partner of Workiva, which offers WDesk, a leading disclosure management software for reporting. Increasing requirements and ever tighter deadlines make efficient workflows a necessity. Workiva offers an innovative cloud-based solution that allows figures and content to be collected and processed centrally and linked to financial or ESG reports. Gregor Sobotta and Christian Ferrari talked about this.

Practical examples are of course a must in our programme, as they provide interesting insights into the working methods and projects of well-known companies. We were delighted to be able to present our long-standing client TÜV SÜD and its latest annual report, which shows how important the topic of sustainability is and why the image section is still of strategic and communicative relevance.
We welcomed Sandra Burkhardt and Michael Kuhlmann, both from MPM, as well as Jörg Riedle from TÜV SÜD.

Trends in corporate reporting

Hard facts and figures dominate, there is no more room for image communication: this seems to have been the trend in annual reports in recent years. And the sustainability report is facing the same development thanks to CSRD. Is this the end for image issues and good stories? We say no.
