Artificial intelligence in internal communication: between potential and reality

Date
14/03/2024

In recent years, we have witnessed huge leaps in the development of innovative technologies that are revolutionising the way we work. From apps to virtual reality, we have seen how the way we communicate and work has fundamentally changed. And now artificial intelligence is in the spotlight. But does AI really offer unlimited possibilities for internal communication, or is it just another hype?

The latest study "Trendmonitor hybride IK 2024 - artificial intelligence in internal communication" takes a closer look at this question. Conducted by RYZE Digital and SCM, 154 communication experts were asked about various aspects of digitalisation and, in particular, the use of AI in their day-to-day work. The results are revealing and paint an ambivalent picture.

Potential recognised - and yet unused

On the one hand, most respondents recognise the enormous potential of AI applications for internal communication. They see great opportunities to save resources, particularly in areas such as text creation, topic planning and translation. Nevertheless, the actual utilisation of AI has so far remained rather low. The reasons cited by respondents for the low utilisation of AI tools included "lack of resources" and "lack of expertise".

In addition, most companies have not yet developed clear guidelines or strategies for the use of AI. Communication experts are therefore in a constant conflict between potential progress and legal concerns - and often prefer to do nothing at all to avoid doing the wrong thing.

Artificial intelligence as a change project

It is obvious that the introduction of AI must be viewed and understood as a change project. It requires commitment and engagement from management, clear strategic guidelines and continuous training of employees. While some AI applications are already well known, there are many others that have not yet been sufficiently explored. It is therefore crucial that communication experts have the courage to try out new technologies and learn how to use them.

Showing courage: IC managers as drivers in the company

But why is AI so important for internal communication? It goes beyond mere support in everyday working life. AI has the potential to change numerous areas in companies and is therefore a relevant topic for all employees. Internal communication plays a crucial role here by informing and supporting employees. However, this requires them to familiarise themselves with new technologies and explain their opportunities and risks in an understandable way.

Overall, the study shows that AI can be a promising tool for internal communication, but only if companies have the courage to use it. It is time to break down barriers and actively engage with the possibilities of AI in order to make internal communication more effective and efficient.

Study: Artificial intelligence in
internal communication

Digital internal communication is constantly changing. Indispensable: digital platforms for exchange within the organisation. They enable the realisation of modern collaboration. One topic is increasingly coming to the fore: artificial intelligence (AI). It is already at work under the bonnet of many tools and could revolutionise our working world and, not least, ICT sooner than we think.

How internal communication succeeds in a company

The larger and more complex the company, the more important it is for business processes to run effectively. However, if employees from different cultures, countries and time zones are to work together, this requires a solid foundation in the form of a contemporary corporate culture and an efficient dialogue for effective work. Good communication is therefore a factor for success.
